The Washita Battlefield National Historic Site is the location of the Southern Cheyenne village that was attacked in November 1868. The confrontation is known as the Battle of Washita, during the Plains and Indian Wars. The village was under the leadership of Peace Chief Black Kettle and the attack was led by George A. Custer, from the 7th U.S. Calvary.
